This Sunday, the second Sunday in May, 85 countries will be celebrating Mother’s Day. In most countries, Mother’s Day is observed in accordance with the United States designation of the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day. In some countries, there was already an existing celebration honoring motherhood, and their celebrations then adopted several external characteristics from the US holiday, such as giving carnations and other presents to one’s mother.
